库布里克的遗产和史蒂芬·金的小说保证了影片的基本水准，但电影的节奏和铺垫还是过于缓慢，导演似乎有意借用伊万麦克格莱格让影片呈现出一股性冷淡风，失去了闪灵诡异和惊悚的力量。故事更多展现的是人生的消极和积极，不乏“世界就是个充满新鲜空气的临终疗养院”这种特别好的对白。但有点像沙特·M·马兰的玻璃先生，或者天师乱斗什么的。影片最大的问题不是野性太大，而是致敬有余，缺乏点野心。
